Google Reader was an RSS/Atom feed aggregator operated by Google. Launched in 2005, it allowed users to subscribe to their favorite websites and blogs, consolidating their updates in one place for easy reading and organization.
Cause of Death:
Google officially stated that the product had a loyal but declining user base and that they wanted to focus on fewer products. However, many believe its shutdown in 2013 was also influenced by the rise of social media and Google's push for Google+, as Reader's sharing features were integrated into the new social platform. Additionally, Reader may not have aligned with Google's advertising-driven business model as effectively as other platforms.
