Wing Cloud (Winglang)
Pay Tribute
Biography
Wing Cloud was a cloud development startup that created Winglang, an open-source programming language designed to unify cloud infrastructure (Infrastructure-as-Code) and application code into a single programming model. It compiled down to target providers like AWS Lambda, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CloudFormation to simplify cloud-native development.
Cause of Death
While Wing Cloud attracted strong developer interest and open-source contributions, the company struggled to convert developer excitement into a sustainable business model. As CEO Elad Ben-Israel stated, while engineers deeply value developer experience, most companies do not view it as a business-critical line item worth paying for. Additionally, the company explored alternative pivots in the cloud space over its final year but was unable to find a viable commercial product-market fit.
