Assurance IQ

Biography
Assurance IQ (originally Assurance) was a Seattle-based insurtech startup that used direct-to-consumer technology to match consumers with personalized insurance plans (health, life, auto, and Medicare) online or through licensed agents. It was acquired by Prudential Financial in 2019 for $2.35 billion.
Cause of Death
Prudential Financial decided to exit and wind down Assurance IQ following severe financial underperformance, regulatory issues, and substantial goodwill write-downs. After acquiring the startup for $2.35 billion in 2019, Prudential took over $2.1 billion in goodwill impairment charges between 2021 and 2023 due to missed financial targets, higher-than-expected acquisition costs, and ongoing regulatory scrutiny, ultimately leading leadership to pivot focus back to Prudential's core businesses.
