Cause of Death
MSN Messenger was shut down globally (except in China) in 2013 and completely in 2014. The primary reason was the rise of competing platforms like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, coupled with the increasing popularity of smartphones. Microsoft also acquired Skype and decided to consolidate its messaging services into a single platform.
