Humane AI Pin
Pay Tribute
Biography
The Humane AI Pin was a $499 screenless wearable meant to replace parts of the smartphone, using a built-in camera, laser projector and voice-driven AI assistant to handle calls, messaging and everyday questions.
Cause of Death
The AI Pin shipped in April 2024 to scathing reviews and, by August 2024, was reportedly being returned faster than it was being sold. On February 18, 2025 Humane announced most of its assets — including its CosmOS operating system, 300+ patents and its engineering team — were acquired by HP for $116 million, a steep drop from the $750 million-$1 billion price Humane had sought in 2024. Every Pin already sold stopped connecting to Humane's servers at 3PM ET on February 28, 2025, permanently disabling calling, messaging, AI queries and cloud access; only buyers within a 90-day window qualified for refunds.
